Kiraz — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-11

This policy applies to the Kiraz Android application.

1. Who is responsible

Developed and published by: Volkan Özbek Contact: kirazdict.info@gmail.com

2. What data we collect

None. The app does not collect personal data, does not generate an identifier for you, and does not gather usage statistics. No account is required; there is no sign-in.

3. Is your data sent anywhere

No data reaches us — we have no server. The app makes no network requests. The entire dictionary — words, kanji, example sentences — ships with the installation and all searches run on your device. Everything works identically in airplane mode.

The one exception is Android's own backup: that is done by the operating system, not by the app, and the data goes to your Google account, not to us. See section 5.

No analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting library is used. None of the app's 13 dependencies contains such a service; this was verified by measurement before release.

4. What is stored on your device

The app keeps the following in its own folder on your device:

sentences); they ship with the app and are read straight from the app package, never copied again,

(spaced-repetition) history, the history of words you looked up, and the translation corrections you submit.

These files are kept on your device. If Android's backup is enabled, kullanici.db is additionally backed up to your Google account in encrypted form (see 5). When you uninstall the app, Android deletes this folder; if you have a backup the data may return when you reinstall, otherwise it cannot be recovered.

5. Backup

This version has two backup paths.

1 · Android's own automatic backup — enabled. kullanici.db (your favourites, decks and review history) is backed up to your Google account. What you should know:

derived from your device's screen lock and Google does not hold it.

2 · The app's own backup. The Back up button in Settings saves your data to a file, and Restore carries it to another device. That file goes only where you choose to put it (see 6) and can merge the data of two devices.

6. Export

The app lets you export your data to a file. You decide who to share that file with; sharing goes through Android's own share sheet and the file never reaches us.

7. Text-to-speech

Japanese pronunciation uses your device's own text-to-speech engine. The app only hands that engine the word to be spoken. ⚠ In the interest of honesty: on some devices the text-to-speech engine is a Google or manufacturer service and may on its own download voice data or contact its servers. That is governed by the engine's own privacy policy and is outside our app's control. You can change or disable the text-to-speech engine in your device settings.

8. External links

Tapping a source or licence link on the "About" screen opens the address in your device's browser. From that point on, your browser and that site's privacy policy apply.

9. Permissions

The permission list of the release package was measured (aapt2 dump permissions, versionCode 20, 2026-09-14). There is no Internet permission.

PermissionPurpose
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12L and earlier only)Saving/sharing a file you export or back up
VIBRATEHaptic feedback
jp.kiraz.dictionary.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSIONAn internal permission the app defines for itself: on Android 13+ it keeps the app's in-process event receivers closed to other apps; it grants nothing to anyone and involves no data

10. Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them (it collects no data from anyone). As a dictionary, it covers slang and adult entries found in the real language; the target audience is 13 and over.

11. Licence and content

The dictionary data is derived from open data sets and is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. The full list of sources and attributions is on the app's "About" screen. Some of the Turkish glosses are machine translations and may contain errors.

12. Changes
